News from the Clubs November

Skittles
Beryl reported that the skittles evenings are going very well with several members coming along. The next evening will be on 26th November which will be a fund raising event to raise money for All Saints Church Sandford. Entry will be £5.00 to include sandwiches and chips and we will be playing Killer. Beryl is taking names.

Walking Club
Pat arranged a walk on Wednesday from Churchill Front Street over Windmill Hill. We managed to stay dry and enjoyed the wonderful autumn colours and the views out to sea. There will be another walk in December. Pat will be giving details at our Christmas meeting.

Book Clubs
We have decided to amalgamate both of our very successful Book clubs when we meet on 15th December for a Christmas get together. Therefore we have both selected the same book for discussion which is Nine Perfect Strangers by Liane Moriaty. The story centres on 9 people who travel to a remote health resort. Over the course of their stay they will get to know each other, but things become very strange as time goes on...... The meeting will be at Pat's  and we are looking forward to an afternoon of fun as this annual event is always most enjoyable.

November meeting news

We began our meeting with a presentation to two young carers and their sponsor from Weston Young Carers. We have had a very successful year of fundraising and they were delighted to receive a cheque for £600.00 from us! They told us how  much they enjoyed all the activities arranged for them, in particular the canoeing they had taken part in this year. They were very grateful to have been helped by this organisation for the last 10 years and our donation will certainly help  many young people in the future.

Speaking of choosing a charity for 2020 our presidents asked for some suggestions from the members. We had a vote and the charity which was unanimously agreed upon was All Saints Church Sandford. We then had a minute's silence in Remembrance of the fallen and also two of our members who have died this year.

Viv our President made a lovely address speaking of her first year in office and thanked all the committee and members for their support. She is happy to stand again and was duly voted in. The committee remains the same apart from a resignation from Mary and the addition of 2 new members, Gina and Anne.
The next meeting will be on 9th December when Tim Lewis will be giving us an entertaining view of The nativity. There will be a bring and share supper for our Christmas party. The programme has been decided for next and will be published in due course.
