Craft Club Dates

Craft Club Meeting Dates

The Craft Club meets on alternate Thursday afternoons at Sandford Village Hall, from 2.00pm until 4.00pm.

As you know we meet in the Village Hall on alternate Thursdays and we would be delighted if you are not a crafter but just want to come along for a cuppa and a chat.  We like to relax and put the world to rights, but it is a Brexit free zone, you will be pleased to know.

If you fancy trying knitting or crochet for the first time or you have become a bit rusty we all help each other and you would be welcome.  There is room to get additional tables out for any artists among you if you want to paint or draw.

Pat  has taken over as leader of our walking club as Kay has retired after doing a wonderful job for many years. Thank you to Kay.

Our next walk will be on Wednesday 6th February when we will be taking a stroll around Cheddar Resevoir.  We will meet outside The Woddborough at 10.00am. Dogs are welcome this time. Look forward to seeing you then.

January Book Club

We had a long discussion about the novel  chosen by Wendy  which was entitled The Lightkeepers Daughter by Jean Pendziwol. It was about two daughters  Elizabeth and Emily who grew up in a lighthouse on windswept Lake Superior. We all agreed it was a superbly written story and gave us much food for thought.

Our next novel chosen by Denise is Wonder by R J Palacio. it is based on a true story about a boy named August who was born with a severe facial disfigurement. We will be meeting on Monday 4th March  at Viv's  this time.

January Meeting

We began our meeting by presenting a cheque for £300 to a representative from Weston Hospicecare which was the total of our fundraising for 2018. She thanked us warmly for our efforts and invited us to come along as a group to visit the Hospice.

We had a most interesting talk from Stephen Bellingham who is a travel counsellor. He explained a lot about the changes to come when travelling to Europe Post  Brexit.

There have been quite a few suggestions for this year's chosen charity ,and so, after a short summary from some of our members we voted to have Weston Young Carers for our fund raising in 2019

We were also invited to vote for one of the resolutions to be brought before the WI Federation at the Annual general Meeting. The deadline is before our February Meeting. They are as follows:

1.    Improving plant biosecurity in the UK
2.    Trees- Improving the natural landscape
3.    Pelvic floor education
4.    Suffering in silence, why we need to end the taboo around menstrual health
5.    A call against the decline in local bus services
6.    Don't fear the smear

Finally we wished all of our members whose birthdays were before the next meeting a Happy Birthday. The committee have decided to do this at every meeting.
